Earrings for Sensitive Ears

A lot of people take it for granted that they can wear any earring they want and not have to think about it twice. But unfortunately, that isn’t the case with a large portion of the population. There are many people out there who have sensitive skin and are very allergic to various metals. This one’s for all of you who struggle with this.

How to know if you have ear sensitivity?
Most commonly, one’s ear gets red and itchy after wearing a certain kind of metal for a while. For some people, the skin may react in minutes. This is a clear sign of ear skin sensitivity. The most common metal that most people are sensitive to is nickel.

What earrings to wear if one has ear skin sensitivity?
There are few things and materials that one would need to look out for when getting a earring with ear skin sensitivity. They are:

·         Check if the earring is marked as hypoallergenic earrings, this should be enough if you get mild allergies.

·         Make sure the earring does not have nickel even at the posts or are entirely nickel free earrings, as it is the metal that is commonly associated with the allergy cases.

·         The safest sensitive earrings are the ones made with gold, platinum or even silver. To be specific, earrings above 14k gold and sterling 925 are good standards.

·         The cheaper materials to try are plastic, titanium or stainless steel.

How to make any earring temporarily wearable for sensitive people?
An easy back of the hand trick is to coat the earring that you need to wear but might cause a reaction is to apply a coat of transparent nail paint on it. Wear it after it dries and that should keep any reaction away for a few days, till the coat comes off!
